A brief insight into South Park Gardens. A lovely hidden Victorian Park in Wimbledon. The Bayeux Arts design of the paths provides many walking routes for adults, and riding routes for children testing out their new bikes and scooters.
It was opened in 1902 on a spare, triangular shaped slice of land between Kings Road and Dudley Road. When it fell into disrepair in the late 20th Century, the Friends of South Park Gardens was formed to return it to its former glory. With funding from the Heritage Lottery and Merton Council, they relaid the paths, reinstated iron railings and replaced the toilet block with a community room and kiosk. They now run many events like child friendly fireworks and a summer picnic. And they fund a gardening club to keep the beds looking great.
